Kaziranga Wildlife Society observed World Environment Day on June 5, 2018 at Kohora, Kaziranga with students of Rising Sun English School and Sankardev Sishu Niketan. A procession was taken out to create awareness about harmful impacts of plastic, especially polythene in our lives as well as in wildlife habitats.
Students also planted medicinal herbs in the office premises of Kaziranga Wildlife Society. Later a film show was held to educate the youngsters on the 4Rs –Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respond to the ill effects of plastic.
Before the start of the programme, a minute’s silence was observed to pay respects to the memory of late Jibon Chandra Das, renowned conservationist and literary pensioner who was known for his dedication as a Ranger with the forest department of Assam. The KWS president Padum Borthakur secretary Mubina Akhtar, asst secretary Alak Sarma, principal of Rising Sun School Debasish Baruah and the Pradhan Acharya of Sankardev Sishu Niketan addressed the students on the occasion.
