
On 2nd February, 2017 in the Conference Hall of Cotton College, Guwahati in collaboration with the WWF, India and Kaziranga Wildlife Society, the World Wetland Day was celebrated with a day long programme. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Nirada Devi, the Principal of Cotton College. Welcome address was given by the Head of the Department of Geography Dr Rupali P. Bhuyan. The Symposium was chaired by Sri Indrajeet Dutta, former president of KWS. Dr Pradip Sharma delivered the Talk on the wetland theme of 2017. Ms Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, the coordinator of WWF, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Prof Parimal Ch Bhattacharyya, Rtd Professor of GU, Ms Mubina Akhtar, the Secretary of KWS, Sri Mohan Chandra Malakar, former PCCF-Wildlife, Assam and Mr Pradipta Baruah, DFO, Wildlife of Greater Guwahati were the other speakers who throw light on the wetland related issues. The student participants and other members of all the organizing bodies actively participated in the deliberations.
